1 Timothy Lesson One

1 Tim 1:2

To Timothy my true son in the faith, Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord

2 Tim 1:2

To Timothy my dear son: Grace Mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Tim 1:18

Prophecies once made about you in the early church God revealed his will in various matters through prophets

Acts 13:1-3

Where prophets had an active role in sending of Paul and Barnabas on their mission to the Gentiles. In Timothy’s case this prophecy may have occurred at the time of or before his ordination 1 Tim 4:14 perhaps about 12 years earlier on Paul’s second missionary journey

Acts 15:36-41, Acts 16:1-4

Paul’s second missionary And he came also to Derby and to Lystra and behold a certain disciple was there named Timothy the son of a Jewish women who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.
Prophecies about Timothy seem to have pointed to the significant leadership role he was to have in the church.

Phil 2:19-22

But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to your shortly so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition for I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare. For they all seek after their own interests not those of Christ Jesus. But you know of his proven worth that he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father. Therefore I hope to send him immediately as soon as I see how things go with me.
That this relationship was of an enduring nature is clear from 2nd Timothy 4: 9, 21 2nd Timothy 4:9 Do your best to come to me quickly. 2nd Timothy 4:21 Do your best to get here before winter.
He was the kind of person who in spite of his youth-he was Paul’s Junior by several years.

1st Timothy 4:12-16

His natural reserve and timidity

1st Cor 16:10

2nd Timothy 1: 3-8

I thank God whom I serve as my forefathers did with a clear conscience as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers, recalling your tears. I long to see you so that I may be filled with joy, I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands for God did not five us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power of love and of self discipline.

SO

Do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord or ashamed of me his prisoner but join with me in suffering for the gospel by the power of God.
